The Surrealist Thought of Salvador Dalí

The Surrealist Thought of Salvador Dalí

The sculptures of the Catalan master in Bari for the first time

Sculptures and graphics by Salvador Dalí, on display in Bari for the first time. A great privilege for the city and a source of pride for Sangiorgio Arte, if we think of the international caliber of this brilliant artist appreciated all over the world. Painter, sculptor, writer, photographer, filmmaker, designer. Impossible to harness Dalí in a single definition because it would not do him justice. Father of Surrealism, he is one of the most important and eccentric figures in the history of art to whom we felt we should pay homage.

On display are the creations that have become "trademarks" of the versatile Spanish artist.

The Soft Clock, which originates from the famous painting The persistence of memory in which Dalí expresses his idea of fluid and limitless time; Alice in Wonderland, in which the protagonist of Carroll's story is depicted as a young woman who jumps rope while roses bloom from her hands and hair, a symbol of beauty; the elephant of triumph, a fantastic image in which Dalí subverts the idea that the elephant is heavy and robust, giving it threadlike legs that resemble stilts and crutches, recurring symbols in his works. On the pachyderm's back, an angel who announces hope for the future with trumpet blasts.

The exhibition will be inaugurated Saturday 3 December at 6pm  by the Councilor for Culture of the Municipality of Bari,Ines Pierucci, in the presence of leading figures from the art world. The event, which will last until February 18, was organized in collaboration with the Dalí Universe, a company that manages the largest private collection of Dalí artwork in the world.

DALÍ UNIVERSE

The organization is headed by Beniamino Levi, an Italian art dealer and collector who worked with Dalí in the 1960s.
Beniamino Levi was fascinated by Dalí's ability to use different mediums to express his art and dedicated his whole life to collecting his works, focusing on three-dimensional creations.

The current Dalí Universe collection is in fact the result of years of dedication and commitment on the part of Levi, who began collecting the artist's works when he opened the Levi Gallery in Milan in 1955. Beniamino Levi is not only an expert on Salvador Dalí and Modern Art recognized worldwide, he was there when it all happened.
