Bewitched by the abstractionism of Eliseo Sonnino
Energetica, the personal exhibition of the Roman master, closes
The abstract worlds of Eliseo Sonnino captured and enchanted the imagination of the visitors of the debut exhibition in Bari, at the San GiorgioArte gallery. The solo show of the Roman master was inaugurated in the presence of the artist, by Nadja Perilli, curator of the exhibition and daughter of the recently deceased master Achille Perilli, from whom Sonnino learned the secrets and traditions of abstractionism.
“His language communicates a great energy - explained the curator during the vernissage - and reminds me of the Forma1 artists who were inspired by the futurists' manifesto to re-evaluate them. In this exhibition there is the will to reaffirm traditional Italian art but to renew it and contextualize it in the contemporary ".
From his works the references to Perilli, Dorazio and Turcato, exponents of that Forma1 Group that proposed a mediation between two opposite languages of Italian art of that period can be clearly perceived: abstractionism and realism. Sonnino, however, managed to go further: he had the ability to assimilate the techniques and rework them in a personal evolution that makes him unique and recognizable.
Curvilinear sections, geometric and reticular elements, linear elements. In the artist's pictorial research two souls seem to converge: one more instinctive and passionate, the other that follows the path of rule, geometric logic, measure. “Art must have a vision projected not only into the contemporary but also into the future - stressed Eliseo Sonnino - because it must always look beyond and keep up with the times. In my small way I try to tackle issues that are projected towards a better future because art must first of all encourage the desire to renew itself with a new energy, especially in these years full of difficulties. And there is nothing stronger than color to give this boost. Color is pure energy, liquid energy. Beyond the concepts that I express in my works, I always try to affirm the strength of abstraction that leads us to look at the world from new, non-canonical points of view ”.
In his training, the artist has combined his study activities with a long experience in urban art that has left tangible marks in his production, in a never interrupted relationship between artistic expression and metropolis.
